HIST 535 - Science and Religion in AmericaCredits: (3) Explores the interaction between scientific thought and religious belief in America from colonial times to the present. Major topics considered include the European background to the American experience; the Puritan outlook on scientific thought in the colonial period; the American enlightenment and revival experience; the reception of evolutionary thought and the rise of social Darwinism; the impact of social science and the social gospel; the relationship between science and fundamentalism in the twentieth century; and the new physics and new cosmology.
