Offered through the Special Education, Counseling, and Student Affairs graduate program, the central goal of the certificate program in autism is to provide special education teachers with understanding and skills to provide special education programs for students with autism. Specifically, students will learn the characteristics and causes of autism, identification and assessment procedures, effective educational interventions, program delivery and transition approaches. In addition, students will participate in an advanced practicum under the supervision of a university supervisor and qualified cooperating teacher.
The autism certificate program extends the training of graduate students who have either already completed a M.S. degree in special education or who are currently enrolled in the M.S. program in special education at KSU and wish to add the autism certificate.
