BIOCH 775 - Molecular Biophysics Credits: 3
Survey of the biophysical methods most frequently encountered in biochemistry and related disciplines. A summary of concepts and techniques of physical science used in studying the structure and function of biomacromolecules such as proteins and DNA. Applications include classical equilibrium thermodynamics and analytical methods like mass spectrometry and circular dichroism (CD), fluorescence, EPR and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. An emphasis on the underlying principles and techniques used in determining the molecular weight and shape of biopolymers, biochemical mechanisms of action, and observation of conformational changes in macromolecules.

Requisites: Prerequisite: CHM 350/CHM 351 or CHM 531/CHM 532, MATH 221, PHYS 114, BIOCH 755, BIOCH 756, BIOCH 765.
