State Authorization Information
In accordance with the U.S. Department of Education’s new regulation (34 C.F.R. § 600.9) regarding legal authorization to provide postsecondary education through distance or correspondence education in a state in which it is not physically located or in which it is otherwise subject to State jurisdiction as determined by the State, Kansas State University abides by the relevant authorization within each state.
Students seeking to enroll in a Kansas State University distance education program residing outside the state of Kansas, but within the United States, District of Columbia, and U.S. Territories (excludes International locations), should check the University’s authorization status below or contact the K-State Global Campus at global@k-state.edu or (785) 532-5575 or toll free at 1-800-622-2578.
National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements:
On February 9, 2015, Kansas State University became an institutional participant in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) initiative. Kansas State University programs are automatically available to students who reside in 49 participating states. The only states that are not part of the NC-SARA agreement are listed below, which also shows K-State’s status to operate in those states.
The NC-SARA agreement does not apply to students enrolled at one of K-State’s physical campuses (Manhattan, Salina, Olathe, or other approved locations).
California
As an out-of-state public institution, Kansas State University is exempt from the California Private Postsecondary Act of 2009, Section 94858, of the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education, which only requires private postsecondary educational institutions to obtain state approval prior to operating. [November 10, 2011] In addition, California does not regulate programs that are 100% online, unless they are physically located in the state.
