Veterinary Medicine (BS)

Location(s): Manhattan Campus


The Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medicine (BVMA): College of Agriculture students admitted into a College or School of Veterinary Medicine  accredited by the Council on Education as a member institution of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges and the American Veterinary Medical Association without a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University will be granted a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medicine (BVMA) after successfully completing two years (minimum 60 credit hours) of the professional program. 

 

Degree Requirements:


Students enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program at Kansas State University or another AVMA accredited institution:

  1. Must have been enrolled in the College of Agriculture for a minimum of one semester as an undergraduate student immediately prior to entering the DVM program.
  2. Must have completed 12 hours of College of Agriculture courses or transfer courses that are evaluated with a College of Agriculture prefix (students are encouraged to complete a minor in the College of Agriculture).
  3. Must have completed a minimum of 30 resident credit hours at Kansas State University.
  4. Must have completed a minimum of 60 undergraduate credit hours.
  5. Cannot have already received a bachelor’s degree.
  6. Must have successfully completed (C or better in DVM Core classes) the first 2 years of the DVM program.
  7. Must submit official transcripts showing successful completion of the first 2 years of the DVM program to Kansas State University Office of Recruitment and Admissions by the university deadline for transfer work to be received for spring graduates (if attending a veterinary school other than Kansas State University).

Communications: (9 credit hours)


The courses with a KSC designation are required if not met through University Core Requirements.

Social Science/Humanities: (12 credit hours)


Social Sciences and/or Humanities are fulfilled by courses focused on the study of human behavior and interaction in social, cultural, environmental, economic and political contexts. The Humanities and Social Sciences have a historical and contemporary focus, from personal to global contexts and consider challenges for the future. (Areas of study: law, history, ancient languages, modern languages, philosophy, religion, appreciation of visual/performing arts, anthropology, criminology, administration, archaeology, education, economics, psychology, linguistics, political science). Agriculture: (12 credit hours)


College of Ag courses  12 credit hours

  • ASI 500 may count here as an overlay.

DVM credits: (minimum 60 hours)


Must have successfully completed the first two years (minimum 60 hours) of an AVMA accredited DVM program and be in good academic standing to progress to third year.

DVM First Year Curriculum


Must have C or better in each required DVM course.

DVM Second Year Curriculum


Must have C or better in each required DVM course.
