Proficiency in English for Academic Purposes Undergraduate Certificate

Documents the achievement of academic English proficiency equivalent at the B2 level (Independent User) on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for students who complete the required coursework.

Admission Requirements
 

  • Students who are admitted to Kansas State University without demonstrating evidence of English Proficiency may be admitted to the certificate program.
  • Students must meet ELP placement standards in order to enroll in courses required for the certificate. These prerequisites may be met by scores on the WildCAT English Proficiency Test, by a standardized test score recognized by K-State, or by successful completion of Intermediate English classes (DAS 150 Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking) in the English Language Program at Kansas State University.
  • Students who need an F-1 visa should not pursue this as a stand-alone certificate but may complete the certificate in addition to a degree program or the non-degree English Language Program. 

Graduation Requirements

Grades of B or better in all certificate courses.

Course Requirements (12-18 credit hours)


• Demonstrated English skills for placement into courses required for the certificate.

• Grades of B or better in all certificate courses.

• Required certificate courses:

  • A course from each of the four Core Skill areas or standardized language test scores documenting B2 English proficiency in any areas for which coursework is not completed at Kansas State University.
