The pre-veterinary medicine program in the College of Agriculture benefits students working toward admission to veterinary school. Students work with a faculty advisor to find the best classes for their individual needs. While fulfilling the pre-vet curriculum, students can take additional courses to apply their skills.

The College of Veterinary Medicine does not offer a Bachelor of Science degree. The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is awarded following the successful completion of a minimum of 64 hours in pre-professional requirements and four years in the professional curriculum.

The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture-Veterinary Medicine (BVMA): College of Agriculture students admitted into a College of Veterinary Medicine without a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University will be granted a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture-Veterinary Medicine (BVMA) after successfully completing two years of the professional program.

Current College of Agriculture students who have been admitted to the DVM program, but who have not completed their bachelor degree at Kansas State University, will be moved into the BVMA degree plan the Fall semester of their first year in the DVM program at Kansas State University. Students attending a DVM program at an institution other than Kansas State University, should go to the Ag Student Records Office in 135 Waters, prior to leaving Kansas State University, to have their major changed to BVMA as well as notify the student records office of their new email address.

*Please note the BVMA will present on the student’s transcript as listed below:

DEGREE                BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURE

                       CONFER DATE       XX/XX/XXXX

PLAN                    BACHELOR – VETERINARY MEDICINE (B.S.)

The student’s transcript will not show the degree plan the student was majoring in prior to entering the DVM program (i.e. Animal Sciences and Industry). Students should understand this is not a degree in their previous undergraduate major and that completion of this degree has a separate set of requirements than does their previous major prior to entering the DVM program.
