The mission of the Women in Engineering Program is to challenge and support female engineering students academically, socially, and professionally.  To that end, WIE support the following programs:

Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

WIE supports K-State’s SWE activities to encourage the development of women into active, informed, and connected engineers, ready to become successful professionals and leaders.  WIE provides funding for campus activities to promote networking and connection between women student engineers, faculty, and established professionals. WIE also provides funding for travel to the national SWE conference where K-State student engineers have opportunities to connect with corporations and attend programs to encourage women in engineering.

Scholars Assisting Scholars (SAS) Tutoring

The SAS tutoring program provides engineering students as tutors to students in science, math and engineering classes. The program is housed in the Carter Learning Center in Durland Hall. SAS tutoring is free and available to all KSU students. SAS is intended to facilitate academic achievement and help students to build a support system to succeed at K-State and beyond. SAS has a walk-in format and is free for students. Students do not have to sign up for a specialized tutoring session and may come to tutors for help any time the tutor is scheduled. The SAS tutors lead large-group review sessions before exams, and have monthly “study nights” in the Carter Learning Center. SAS tutors also serve as informal life coaches for students they tutor, providing advice on choosing majors, enrolling in classes, and internship selection.

Connect

WIE produces an electronic newsletter (CONNECT) for families of engineering students. The newsletter keeps families informed of activities within the college and university and important academic calendar dates. CONNECT also provides suggestions and helpful tips on how families can encourage and support their student engineers.
