The Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional & Community Planning (LARCP) offers two accredited professional degree options: a Master of Landscape Architecture and a Master of Regional & Community Planning; an online Master of Science in Community Development and Graduate Certificate in Community Development; a Bachelor of Science in Real Estate and Community Development; and a Community Planning Minor. The programs provide nationally recognized and affordable education, real world engagement, and a strong LARCP community. Graduates of the programs are in demand throughout the country in private practice, governmental service, and academic setting.
The Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) and Master of Regional & Community Planning (MRCP) degrees have two entry points. Undergraduate students complete a five-year plus Non-Baccalaureate Track. Students who have completed a bachelor’s degree, regardless of the field of study, complete a Post-Baccalaureate Track of study (3-years plus for the MLA and 2-years for the MRCP), see the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional & Community Planning page in the Graduate Catalog.
The MLA program prepares students to create and protect outdoor places of significance to the human experience; address ecological and social needs; plan for inclusive and equitable communities: to design landscape. The MRCP program prepares students to be advocates for resilient cities that enhance quality of life in ways that are sustainable, equitable, and accessible to all citizens. We help communities address challenges related to resource conservation, growing of diverse populations, and continually changing technologies and value systems. The Master of Science in Community Development prepares students to promote participatory democracy, sustainable development, rights, equality, economic opportunity, and social justice, through the organization, education and empowerment of people within their communities. The new Bachelor of Science in Real Estate and Community (BS RECD) program uniquely bridges community development and business, preparing students to: bring together expertise in community development/social values and business/real estate, focusing on people and place; prepare for future workforce areas in downtown development programs, business improvement districts, environmental groups, in the public, private, and non-governmental organizational sectors; and, make connections between programs in APDesign and the College of Business.
