The K-State Center for Child Development is a Student Life department serving the child care and early childhood education needs of K-State students, faculty, staff and the community. It is fully licensed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and is a nationally accredited program through NAFYC. It is professionally staffed and uses a nationally acclaimed curriculum. The Center also partners with Child Care Aware of America to offer subsidies to military families. The Center provides a variety of subsidies to make childcare affordable to families. The Center offers full-day high quality and educational programs for infants through prekindergarten children and school age in the summer. The Center is open year-round offering care Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The School operates six early childhood classrooms for children aged 6 weeks through five years at The Stone House Ruth Hoeflin Early Childhood Education Center and C.Q. and Georgia Chandler III Institute for Child and Family Studies on N. Manhattan Avenue. The site serves as a teacher training facility for students enrolled in the pre-service early childhood education program. Enrollment in the program is open to members of the K-State and Manhattan communities. The facility is licensed by the state of Kansas and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The learning environments and planned experiences are designed to foster children’s cognitive, language, social, emotional, and physical growth and development. Enrollment application forms are available online.
Four of the classrooms provide year-round, full-day care and education for the children ranging in age from 6 weeks through five years of age. Priority in enrollment is given to children of parents working full- time. Two classrooms, The Early Childhood Laboratory, host an interagency program with USD 383. The classrooms integrate children identified by USD 383 who have delays and/or disabilities with non-handicapped children. Forty-eight children, ranging in age from 3 to 5 years, are enrolled in this part-year, part-day preschool program.

The K-State Family Center provides applied educational training to students while offering counseling, family-related educational programs, consultation, and mediation services to Manhattan and the state. On-site services include individual, couple, family and group therapy, and parent education. Outreach programs include contracts with Junction City Smart Start program providing home-based family play therapy, parent education and staff consultation. State sponsored home-based family therapy training is also provided for clinicians throughout the state through contracts with SRS and KHS.

News and Communications Services coordinates public information about K-State and is the official outlet for K-State news. The unit administers the general university social media accounts and offers editing and writing assistance to university colleges, departments and units. It also works in conjunction with emergency management personnel to provide crisis communications. Additionally, News and Communications Services edits and distributes distributes the university’s official daily newsletters, K-State Today, for faculty and staff, and K-State Today Student Edition. The unit also works in conjunction with the Vice President for Research to publish the university’s flagship research magazine, Seek.

Responsible use of the university’s technology resources is expected of everyone. All K-Staters must comply with the university’s IT policies.
eIDs and passwords
K-State students and employees have an electronic identifier (eID) on the central computer system. It allows access to email, KSIS the student information system, K-State Online, the K-State wireless network, Zoom videoconferencing, HRIS Self-Service and more.
Passwords must be changed every 180 days. To complete this update, visit the eProfile page.
K-State will never ask for your password in an email. Delete any email that asks for your password.
K-State provides email service to all students and university employees. Your official, primary K-State email address has two forms: email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org. The university sends official correspondence to K-Staters via their primary email addresses with full expectation that communications will be received and read in a timely manner.

Microsoft Office software
Office 365 ProPlus is free for all K-Staters. It includes desktop and mobile app versions of Microsoft Office and can be installed on up to five PCs or Macs, five tablets, and five phones: k-state.edu/its/office365/help.
Antivirus and security
K-Staters must protect their computers from security risks and threats.
Those who use the campus network must install K-State’s free antivirus software. The latest version can be downloaded from the K-State antivirus website.

Emergency notices (K-State Alerts)
K-State Alerts is the campus emergency notification system. Sign up at eid.k-state.edu to receive emergency text messaging and phone calls.
Computing labs and InfoCommons
More than 400 computers and printing facilities are available in Hale Library and in university computing labs throughout campus. Computer labs provide free access to electronic information resources and software programs, including email, internet access, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, statistical analysis, and programming languages. Media Development Center
The Media Development Center in 213 Hale Library provides free resources, tutorials, and assistance. Create videos; scan and edit photos and images; make music and audio recordings; and more. Multimedia equipment includes a color printer, a 3-D printer, CD/DVD burners, a variety of scanners, a sound booth, and video-editing resources. Visit the MDC website for additional information.

Connecting to K-State (wireless and direct network)
There are two ways to connect to the campus data network and then to the internet:
- Direct network connection, using a hard-wired line and an Ethernet card.
K-State buildings are directly connected to the internet.
- Wireless network connection.
K-State’s wireless computer network allows laptops and other mobile-computing devices to link to the internet without being physically tied to an Ethernet connection line.
A current K-State eID and password is required to configure your device and access the secure wireless network. For more information visit the website.
Three wireless networks are available. KSU Wireless is for all K-Staters, and KSU Housing is for residence halls and Jardine Apartments. KSU Guest provides basic Internet access, but cannot access protected campus resources such as webmail, KSIS and HRIS. For more information visit the website.
Web-based information resources include the student information system (KSIS); the library catalog system; the K-State Research Exchange institutional repository; K-State Online Classic and K-State Online powered by Canvas and more. Computer repair (a service of iTAC) provides fee-based computer and peripheral repair services to the campus community and for home computers of students, faculty, and staff. The KSU Foundation was established in 1944 as the official fundraising arm of Kansas State University. It is a separate, independent organization chartered by the state of Kansas as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational corporation. Gifts to the foundation are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
Foundation staff members work in close partnership with university administrators, deans and faculty to secure charitable contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations to support identified priorities for the university. Gifts received through the foundation fund undergraduate and graduate student scholarships, establish faculty chairs and professorships, provide departmental support, and enhance the campus infrastructure.
A volunteer board of trustees governs the foundation. A 15-member board of directors meets quarterly and is authorized to act on the trustees’ behalf.

The K-State Speech and Hearing Center provides evaluation, intervention, and consultation services to individuals with articulation, fluency, voice, language and swallowing, or hearing impairments. These clinical services are available to university students, children, and adults of the surrounding communities. The center provides educational and clinical experiences for students preparing for careers in speech-language pathology and audiology.

On May 22, 2018, a fire in Hale Library resulted in significant smoke and water damage. While the building will be closed for the 2018-2019 school year, library and IT services are available, including Ask a Librarian and the IT Help Desk, which is located in the Student Union. Online resources such as databases, ebooks, and journals are available, but most physical collections that were in Hale during the fire will not be accessible during the 2018-2019 school year. Students should request books and articles that are no longer available from K-State using the Library’s free interlibrary loan service. They will work to get these items from other libraries for you. Alternate computer, printing, and study locations have also been identified. K-State Libraries manifests the land-grant values and rich history of Kansas State University. We elevate academic success as an integral partner in research, learning, and discovery. All of the K-State Libraries venues offer areas for individual and group study and often include technology-enabled meeting rooms. Inside Hale Library, the Great Room anchors the third floor Quiet Zone for focused individual work, while the area around Library Help on the second floor is a hub of activity for group projects and study.
When classes are in session, Hale Library is open 24 hours a day, 5 days a week, plus weekend hours. This ensures that whenever students need a place to study, the Libraries can be a first option. Additionally, the Anita C. Lehner 24 Hour Study Area inside Hale Library is open 365 days a year for study space or computer use.
The Libraries employ approximately 100 staff full-time, including faculty librarians, unclassified professionals, and classified professionals. The part-time student staff numbers approximately 60.
Collectively the Libraries maintain three million volumes to support the diverse academic, instructional, and research activities of Kansas State University. Technology allows students and faculty to be outside the library building, off campus, and even out of the country and still have the ability to access online databases, journals, and books. Personal research assistance is available from anywhere through the Libraries’ website and services like Ask a Librarian that include chat, text message, and email options. We’ve been answering your questions since 1863 and finding new ways to do so every day.

The Kansas State University Police Department helps preserve a safe campus environment where diverse social, cultural and academic values are allowed to develop and prosper.
The department has 23 police officers serving the campus community. Patrols operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year through the campus, KSU Foundation property, parking lots, residence halls, Jardine apartments and athletic complex grounds.
University police officers derive their authority from KSA 76-726 and are fully commissioned law enforcement officers vested with full police/law enforcement authority with arrest powers. Officers are state-certified and receive their basic law enforcement training from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Academy. Officers receive a minimum of 40 hours of in-service training each year to maintain their state certification.
24 hour services include Multi-Media Messaging (similar to Text to 9-1-1) through LiveSafe, K-State Alerts, and Wildcat Walk (escort across campus). Additional services provided upon request include ALICE training, Community Safety Talks, and Emergency Operations Planning. Fingerprinting is offered during limited hours.

All mail for students must be addressed to their off-campus Manhattan address or residence hall/Greek address. Postage should be applied to this mail, and it should be sent through the United States Postal Service.
Manhattan Post Office personnel deliver U.S. mail directly to university buildings and residence halls and pick up outgoing U.S. mail from various locations on the campus.
The Contract Post Office sells stamps, and other postal supplies; weighs, insures, and registers mail; and receives outgoing U.S. mail.
Collegian Media Group

K-State students of all majors produce the Kansas State Collegian daily newspaper and Royal Purple yearbook the nation’s most honored tandem of collegiate publications.
Student journalists produce and select all content in the Collegian and Royal Purple. Their experience as reporters, photojournalists, designers, graphics journalists, illustrators, copy editors, and editors launches them into internships and careers across the nation. A student staff also sells thousands of dollars in advertising to help underwrite the publications.
Collegian Media Group is an independent local agency that publishes the newspaper, yearbook, and Manhappenin’ magazine. Its board of directors hires editors in chief and supervises finances, but content decisions rest with the student staffs of the publications. The newspaper advisor also teaches in the A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Royal Purple staffs are hired annually. Collegian staffs are hired by semester. Staff applications are available in 103 Kedzie Hall, with applications due in early November and early March for subsequent semesters.
