EDSP 835 - The IEP Process in Special Education

Credits: 3

EDSP 835 is a comprehensive course that focuses on the development and implementation of Individual Education programs (IEPs) in the context of special education. Throughout the course, students will gain a deep understanding of the legal framework surrounding Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) and the significance of creating educationally meaningful and legally sound IEPs. They will learn the fundamental components of an IEP and practice writing each section to meet the individual needs of students. Additionally, students will develop skills in assessing and analyzing IEPs, including the use of screening tools and assistive technology assessment. The course also covers transition programming in IEPs and provides opportunities for students to engage in comprehensive case studies. By the end of the course, students will have the knowledge and skills to create comprehensive and effective IEPs that support students with special needs.
