EDEL 411 - Science of Reading I Credits: 3
Provides an evidence-based approach to teaching the science of reading in the primary grades focusing on five areas: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Topics include how the brain learns to read, essential components of structured literacy, and the research behind practices that support literacy skills and language development. Addresses literacy assessment, instructional strategies, and resources for teaching decoding, language comprehension, and reading comprehension to meet the needs of all students.

Requisites Prerequisite: EDCI 318, EDCEP 315, EDSP 324, and EDEL 320. Concurrent enrollment in EDEL 410, EDEL 412, EDEL 413, and EDEL 414.
