ENTOM 302 - Art and Insects

Credits: 3

Science and art are not different ends of an academic continuum, but rather simultaneously found in all disciplines within academia. The goal of this course is to provide a framework and appreciation that students can utilize to consider all aspects of novel experiences and problems, as global problems require global thinking. The model system for this course will be insects, where students will learn about evolution, genetics, behavior, and biodiversity, while also learning art history, interpretation, analysis of color and shape, perception, and the role of insect representations in the humanities. While there are specific lectures that cover Insects and Art separately, the majority of lectures combine both science and art.
