The impact of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic system on the agrarian economy and aristocratic society of the eighteenth century; the evolution of liberalism, socialism, and colonialism; the development of parliamentary democracy and the impact of the Industrial Revolution; the French response to the devastation of World War I, the humiliation of World War II, and the colonial wars of the De Gaulle era.
