All regular courses offered by the Department of Modern Languages may be taken by non-majors on an A/Pass/F basis, subject to the provisions of the university policy. Language laboratories are offered only on a Credit/No-Credit basis.
Students majoring in languages should enroll for the bachelor of arts degree.
Programs Offered
Modern Languages offers majors in FRENCH, GERMAN, and SPANISH. Students may combine their Modern Language majors with a major in a different field or college. To accomplish this, students need to complete the requirements for a BA in Modern Languages as well as those for the other major or degree. We also encourage students to consider secondary majors in International Studies or Latin American Studies, or a minor in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian or Spanish to complement their curriculum.

Making learning enjoyable…if you are a faculty, or a student enrolled in a language course, come on in! You are invited to the Kirmser Language Center. We will provide you audio, video, and computer multimedia services for both undergraduate and graduate level courses within the Department of Modern Languages. The KLC currently servies about 1,250 students each semester, and offers a variety of resources. The Kirmser Language Center is the location for students to have their language skills tested prior to enrolling in most language courses.
Double majors and dual degrees
Students are encouraged to combine their modern language major with a major in a different field or college. To accomplish this, the student needs to complete the requirements for a BA in modern languages as well as those for the other major or degree.
Entering students who have had previous language experience and who plan to continue language study are required to take a language placement examination before or at the beginning of the first semester of language study. If there is any doubt as to proper placement, check with the head of the Department of Modern Languages.
Students wishing to acquire retroactive credit for language proficiency gained before coming to K-State should consult with the head of the Department of Modern Languages.
