The School of Human Sciences participates in the Ph.D. degree program awarded from the College of Health and Human Sciences with a specialization in Couple and Family Therapy. The mission of the doctoral (PhD) program in Couple and Family Therapy (CFT) at K-State is to educate and mentor family scientist-practitioners with the most advanced, cutting-edge training in research, supervision, and clinical work, for the purpose of developing professionals who embrace a wide range of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences; and are prepared to make significant contributions as world-class researchers, impactful educators, excellent clinicians and supervisors, and collaborative community leaders. The Ph.D. specialization in couple and family therapy is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).

Admission Requirements
This curriculum for the Ph.D. in CFT follows COAMFTE guidelines. It assumes students have completed the requirements for the COAMFTE Master’s-Level Standard Curriculum. Where that is not the case, students must complete the equivalent of any deficiencies. Most students complete the program in four years. Students have seven years to complete the program. A minimum of 90 credits is required. Students already holding an applicable master’s degree upon admission can count 30 credits toward the 90 credits required for the doctorate. No GRE requirement for admission. Required Courses

- Accumulate 400 approved clinical hours (including approved transfer hours)
- Successfully defend your dissertation proposal seminar, write the dissertation, and successfully complete your oral defense of the dissertation
AND - Successfully complete required CFT portfolio
Program Total Credits: 60
Master’s degree Transfer Credits: 30
*Students who hold a master’s degree may request transfer of up to 30 credit hours of that degree toward a Doctoral Degree Total Credit Hours Required for Doctorate: 90
