Diversified Agriculture (BS)

The Bachelor of Science in Diversified Agriculture is a multidisciplinary program in agriculture. Students in this program will develop their knowledge base and skills in agriculture, communications, and business. Students will have the opportunity to select a concentration within the area of agriculture that best aligns with their career goals. The curriculum blends together both general and specific career education. Upon completion of the program, students should be ready to enter the workforce with a broad and diverse knowledge of agricultural industries, as well as a solid basis in communications and business management skills.

No additional admission criteria for this program.

Kansas State University Core: 34-36 Credit Hours


K-State Core  is the foundation for an impactful life and career after time at K-State.

The K-State Core framework covers six disciplinary areas: English, Communications, Mathematics & Statistics, Natural & Physical Sciences, Social & Behavioral Sciences, and Arts and Humanities. In addition, a seventh area is reserved for institutionally designated use, which K-State is keeping as free electives. In total, the framework takes up 34-35 credit hours of 100 and 200-level coursework. Students who complete their general education elsewhere cannot be required to take additional general education coursework in the disciplinary areas of the framework without permission from KBOR to continue requiring courses in the K-State Core.

Program Requirements: 45 Credit Hours


Natural and Physical Sciences: (4 credit hours)


An additional 4 hours to what is completed in Requirement #4 of the K-State Core. Course list will include all courses listed in Requirement #4 of the K-State Core.  

Agriculture Foundations: (14 credit hours)


Select 14 hours from courses from five of the eight categories:

Agriculture Electives: (12 credit hours)


Select 12 hours from any College of Agriculture course prefix or ATM, BAE, ENSCI prefix courses.

These courses cannot also be used to meet the agriculture foundations requirements.

Business, Economics, Management, and Leadership: (15 credit hours)

Occupational Health and Safety in Agriculture: (3 credit hours)


Select 3 hours 300-level or above:

Agriculture Concentration: (15 credit hours)


Select 300 level or above courses from one prefix: 

AGCOM, AGEC, AGED, AGRON, ASI, ASMS, ATM/BAE, ENTOM, FDSCI, GRSC, HORT, PMC, UFS, WOEM, (one PLPTH class may be used in the AGRON, HORT, or ENTOM concentration) or 15 hours in Global Food Systems (must include GENAG 325 and 425). A student wishing to have a customized program with more than one prefix used (with the exception of Global Food Systems) will need approval from the program director. Concentration must be exclusive to courses in Agriculture (with the exception of BAE, ATM, or ENSCI) unless completing an interdisciplinary certificate and minor which will also need director approval.  

Applied Learning Experience Overlay: (1-3 credit hours)


Student must take at least one course designated as an applied learning experience. Course may be used to fulfill other degree requirements. See departmental list.

Unrestricted Electives


Additional hours needed to meet 120 hour requirement.

Total Hours Required for Graduation: 120


Unless the requirement block specifies otherwise, courses in the K-State Core can be used to meet one additional degree requirement, with the exception of a degree requirement that is specified as an overlay. K-State Core classes cannot be used to meet requirements for unrestricted electives. Courses outside the K-State Core can only be used to meet one degree requirement, unless the degree requirement is specified as an overlay.
