Accelerated Entomology (BS) /Entomology (MS)

Students who successfully complete this program will receive both a B.S. in Entomology and a M.S. in Entomology.  This accelerated degree program can be completed in a minimum of five academic years.

Admission Requirements


Students applying for the accelerated program are not required to have completed their bachelor degree prior to pursuing the master program. The following requirements must be met before an individual can be admitted into this program:

  • The student must be seeking the bachelor’s degree in Entomology
  • The student must have completed a minimum of 75 credit hours toward the bachelor degree at time of application for admission to the accelerated program
  • The student’s cumulative undergraduate GPA must be at least 3.0.
  • Student must meet all other Graduate School admission criteria as outlined in the Graduate School Handbook
  • After being accepted into program, students are considered undergrads and as a provisional graduate student.  So, students have to enroll in the 9 credit hours to be counted for both degrees during their undergrad as a “graduate student” and pay graduate tuition.  Students are considered to be a “Special Student” at the graduate level.
  • Upon successful completion of 9 credits that count towards both bachelor and master degree, the student will receive full admission to the master program.
  • A student who has completed all coursework for the bachelor’s degree is not eligible for the accelerated program.
  • Program specific admission requirements: The student must be nominated for admissions by a Graduate Faculty member in Department of Entomology. At the time of nomination, the nominating faculty member must be willing to serve as the student’s major advisor during the completion of requirements for the M.S. degree (this faculty member can be changed in accordance with K-State’s policies.)
  • The student must apply for this program prior to receiving their B.S. in Entomology.

Graduation Requirements


Complete the degree requirements for a B.S. in Entomology.  For the M.S. in Entomology, the following are required:

  • A GPA of 3.0 or higher is required in fulfilling M.S. coursework.
  • Complete 30 graduate credit hours (9 of which are to be taken as an undergraduate).
  • At least 18 hours of graduate credits must be at or above the 700 level. Graduate courses outside the department must be at or above the 600 level).
  • Complete a M.S. Report following the guidelines set by the student’s graduate advisor and advisory committee.

Note: Degree requirements will be summarized on an approved plan of study following Department of Entomology and Graduate School Policies.

Course Requirements


BS/MS Courses counted toward both degrees.

The students can choose three courses for a total of 9 credits.
