Kansas State University Core: 34-36 Credit Hours
K-State Core is the foundation for an impactful life and career after time at K-State. The K-State Core framework covers six disciplinary areas: English, Communications, Mathematics & Statistics, Natural & Physical Sciences, Social & Behavioral Sciences, and Arts and Humanities. In addition, a seventh area is reserved for institutionally designated use, which K-State is keeping as free electives. In total, the framework takes up 34-35 credit hours of 100 and 200-level coursework. Students who complete their general education elsewhere cannot be required to take additional general education coursework in the disciplinary areas of the framework without permission from KBOR to continue requiring courses in the K-State Core. Program Requirements: (37 Credit Hours)
A grade of C or higher is required in all Teacher Education courses and practica. A 3.0 or higher grade point average in Teacher Education courses and practica is needed before the Professional Semester. Pre-Professional Component: (5 Credit Hours)
Professional Education Component: (32 Credit Hours)
Admission to teacher education required. Non-Blocked courses (Must be completed before student teaching)
Block 1: (8 Credit Hours)
Courses must be taken concurrently and prior to Block II. Block II: (9 Credit Hours)
Courses must be taken concurently and prior to Student Teaching. Professional Semester (Internship): (12 Credit Hours)
A 3.0 or higher grade point average in Teacher Education courses and practica is needed before the Professional Semester. Math Requirement
If not met through K-State Core requirements, MATH 160 is required.
Licensure Requirement: (48 Credit Hours)
Upper Level Social Studies: (6 Credit Hours)
At least 6 credit hours required. Choose one listed course from at least two of the following departments. A. US History: Any 500-level Non-US History courses-and Non-US as 500+
B. Non-US History: Any 500-level Non-US HIST Course
Additional Teacher Education Courses: (5 Credit Hours)
Free Elective: (2 Credit Hours)
Any course chosen by the student to complete 120 credit hour requirement for program. Total Hours Required for Graduation: 120
