KBOR Systemwide Elementary Education Requirement {PK-6}
The systemwide transfer degree provides a pathway from any Kansas public community college offering the degree to any Kansas public university for individuals desiring to become licensed as a PK-6 elementary teacher. The pathway identifies courses/credit hours to be taken at the community college level and reflects the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) General Education framework “buckets” (https://www.kansasregents.org/academic_affairs/general-education/seven-bucket-framework) and recommended education coursework. These courses/credit hours transfer to any KBOR university as the first sixty hours toward a 120-hour PK-6 Elementary Education program degree. The remaining sixty hours at KBOR universities are the required courses to complete the PK-6 Elementary Education degree. English Discipline Area: 6 Credit Hours
Communications Discipline Area: 3 Credit Hours
Mathematics & Statistics Discipline Area: 3 Credit Hours
Natural & Physical Sciences Discipline Area: 4-5 Credit Hours
Choose one course with a laboratory from the following areas (100-200 level courses): Social and Behavioral Sciences Discipline Area: 6 Credit Hours
Choose two courses from two of the following areas (100-200 level courses): - Anthropology - Economics - Geography - Political Science - Psychology - Sociology
Arts & Humanities Discipline Area: 6 Credit Hours
Choose one course beyond HIST 151 or HIST 152 from the following areas (100-200 level courses): - Art - Literature - Music - Theatre
Elementary Education Designated Area: 6 Credit Hours
As part of the Systemwide (PK-6) Elementary Universal Transfer Pathway, this is a deviation from Bucket #7 Institutionally Designated Plan. The course cannot have been used in another bucket. Teacher Education Preparation Requirements: 26 Credit Hours
Creative Expression: 5-6 Credit Hours
Complete the remaining two courses from the Creative Expression Area in the Teacher Education Preparation Requirements. Education Requirement: [3] Credit Hours
If not already taken must complete the following course: Professional Semester: 12 Credit Hours
A 3.000 or higher GPA in all Teacher Education courses and practica is
needed before the Professional Semester. Total Hours Required for Graduation: 120
