The BS in Dietetics prepares students for a career as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).  Dietitians provide medical nutrition therapy for the treatment of diet-related diseases and conditions.  In addition, dietitians use their expertise in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, medical clinics, local health departments, long-term care and senior living facilities, sports teams, K-12 schools, universities, corporations, restaurants, food manufacturers, and media organizations.  Dietetic practice areas range from acute clinical care, to school nutrition programs, to nutrition education, and so much more.  Individuals holding the RDN credential understand the background science and can interpret nutrition research for the public and guide the development of programs that help individuals and groups reach the healthiest state possible.
The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) as a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD).  Graduates of the DPD are eligible to receive an ACEND Didactic Program Verification Statement. This verification statement allows them to apply to accredited supervised practice programs, which is a required step in the pathway to becoming eligible to sit for the RDN credentialing exam. The verification statement also immediately qualifies graduates to take the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credentialing exam to become a Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR).
Students interested in receiving the ACEND Didactic Program Verification Statement must indicate their interest midway through the curriculum. A formal review process is used to verify student eligibility.
