Human Nutrition (BS) - Nutrition and Health

The nutrition and health curriculum emphasizes health promotion, chronic disease prevention, human nutrition, and preparation for careers in the healthcare field. Graduates from this program may develop community programs to promote nutrition, health, and wellness, educate people about the relationship between diet and health, and/or work with special groups at risk for nutrition-related health problems, such as pregnant women, infants, and the elderly. Opportunities are available with local health departments/extension offices, wellness programs, and the healthcare industry. This program is also designed to develop our graduates to be competitive applicants for most accredited healthcare programs, including (but not limited to):

  • Nursing
  • Physician Assistant
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy

Kansas State University Core: 34-36 Credit Hours


K-State Core  is the foundation for an impactful life and career after time at K-State.

The K-State Core framework covers six disciplinary areas: English, Communications, Mathematics & Statistics, Natural & Physical Sciences, Social & Behavioral Sciences, and Arts and Humanities. In addition, a seventh area is reserved for institutionally designated use, which K-State is keeping as free electives. In total, the framework takes up 34-35 credit hours of 100 and 200-level coursework. Students who complete their general education elsewhere cannot be required to take additional general education coursework in the disciplinary areas of the framework without permission from KBOR to continue requiring courses in the K-State Core.

Grades of C or higher required for Program Requirements
*If any of the following courses are applied towards University Core Requirements, please consult your advisor on additional courses to meet the 120 hours. 

Major Support Courses: (16 Credit Hours)


*Required if not met through University Core requirements. 
If not met through K-State Core requirements, STAT 225 is required.

Unrestricted Electives: (35 Credit Hours)


Dependent on course selections to fulfill general education requirements.


*At least 16 hours of Unrestricted Electives must be upper-level courses (300-level or above) to reach the required 45 hours of upper-level coursework, or as many as needed to meet the upper-level coursework threshold. 

Total Hours Required for Graduation: 120
