Jazz Minor Requirements

Acceptance into the Jazz Minor is based on passing an entry-level theory exam and audition.

Private Jazz Instruction (4 credit hours)

Jazz Minor Students will enroll in and take provate jazz instructions for a total of 4 credits.

• MUSIC 255 - Lower-Division Performance Credits: 1-4

Jazz Combos (4 credit hours)

Jazz Minor students will enroll in and perform with jazz combos for a total of 4 credits.

• MUSIC 280 - Lower-Division Ensemble Performance Credits: 1

• or

• MUSIC 480 - Upper-Division Ensemble Performance Credits: 1

Jazz Ensemble (2 credit hours)

Jazz Minor Students will enroll in and perform with jazz ensembles for a total of 2 credits.

• MUSIC 118 - Jazz Ensemble Lab A Credits: 0-1

• or

• MUSIC 406 - Collegiate Jazz Ensemble Credits: 0-1

Jazz Theory and Improvisation (4 credit hours)

Students will take 4 courses in jazz theory and improvisation

• MUSIC 696 - Jazz Theory I Credits: 1
• MUSIC 697 - Jazz Theory II Credits: 1
• MUSIC 698 - Jazz Improvisation I Credits: 1
• MUSIC 699 - Jazz Improvisation II Credits: 1

Jazz History (3 credit hours)

Jazz Minor Students will take one course in jazz history.
