Music Education - Instrumental (BMED)

The program of study leading to this degree is a nine-semester curriculum designed to prepare music teachers for grades pre K–12. With careful planning and enrollment during summer session(s) all requirements may be completed in four years. Within this curriculum there are two emphases–vocal/choral music, and instrumental music.

Program


Music Fundamentals: 19 Credit Hours


These courses serve as the foundation for musical study. There are 22 hours total, but 3 are counted in Bucket 6 for a total of 19 credits.

Studio Lessons: 13 Credit Hours


Graduates will complete a minimum of 8 credits and a maximum of 10 credits of MUSIC 255 and will complete a minimum of 3 and maximum of 5 credits of MUSIC 455

Organizational Credit: 6 Credit Hours


Students will enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours of a major performing ensemble. Must be enrolled in one credit of any of the following during each of the first six semesters. Once the requirements are met 0 credits for the remainder of the matricualtion is recommended.

Recital: 1 Credit Hour


Instrumental Sub-plan: 11 Credit Hours


Total Hours Required for Graduation: 132
