Agricultural Education (BS)

Agricultural education involves the broad study of agriculture including a core of course work in agribusiness; animal science; biotechnology; environmental service; food products and processing; natural resources; plant science; and power, structural and technical systems.

Agricultural education is designed for students who wish to meet requirements to teach agriculture in a public school setting or work in other areas where education and teaching are integral (i.e. extension, agribusiness, etc.). Graduates in this option meet Kansas State Board of Education licensure requirements.

Sixteen weeks during the second semester of the senior year are devoted to full-time student teaching.

English (Written Communication Outcomes): 6 Credit Hours


Communication (Oral Communication Outcomes): 3 Credit Hours


Natural & Physical Sciences (Natural & Physical Sciences Outcomes): 4-5 Credit Hours


Choose 1 subject area which must include a lab.

Social & Behavioral Sciences (Social & Behavioral Sciences Outcomes): 6 Credit Hours


At least 2 courses from 2 subjects under this area.

Arts & Humanities (Arts & Humanities Outcomes): 6 Credit Hours


At least 2 courses from 2 subjects under this area.

Free Electives (Institutionally Designated Area): 6 Credit Hours


Includes ALL 100 and 200 level courses at K-State or in Transfer. 
Note: One course may be used to satisfy more than one requirement. However, students must complete a total of 34-36 credit hours of general education courses.

Chemistry or Additional Science: (4 credit hours)


If Chemistry was taken within the General Education KSC-050 an additional Science must be taken. Biology 198 is recommended.

Agricultural Science Electives: (12 credit hours)


Complete 12 credit hours of College of Agriculture (or ATM) courses. Of these, at least 9 credit hours must be at the 200 level or higher. Courses must be selected from at least three College of Agriculture (or ATM) prefixes.

Ag Ed Block III: (12 credit hours)


Free Electives: (3 credit hours)


Total Hours Required for Graduation: 120
