The BS in Dietetics prepares students for a career as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Dietitians provide medical nutrition therapy for the treatment of diet-related diseases and conditions. In addition, dietitians use their expertise in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, medical clinics, local health departments, long-term care and senior living facilities, sports teams, K-12 schools, universities, corporations, restaurants, food manufacturers, and media organizations. Dietetic practice areas range from acute clinical care, to school nutrition programs, to nutrition education, and so much more. Individuals holding the RDN credential understand the background science and can interpret nutrition research for the public and guide the development of programs that help individuals and groups reach the healthiest state possible.
The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) as a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD). Graduates are eligible for application to accredited supervised practice programs which lead to eligibility to take the RDN Exam. Another option for graduates is that they are immediately eligible to sit for the credentialing exam to become a Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered (NDTR).
