Admission Requirements

Interested students must petition the Kansas State University Graduate School to be admitted into this program. The following requirements must be met before a student can be admitted into this program.

• The student must be seeking a BA/BS in Chemistry from Kansas State University.
• The student must have completed at least 75 credit hours of coursework towards the BA/BS degree.
• The student must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0.
• The student must have identified a member of the Graduate Faculty in the Kansas State University, College of Education, Adult Learning and Leadership Program who has agreed to serve as their major professor. Changes in major professor can be made in accordance with Graduate School policies.

The student must apply for this program prior to receiving their BA/BS in Chemistry.

Application Process

Students should apply to the program during their junior year. Applications should include the following:

• A completed on-line application to the K-State Graduate School with paid application fee.
• Written documentation demonstrating agreement by a member of the Graduate Faculty in the Kansas State University College of Education, Adult Learning and Leadership Program, who will serve as the student’s major professor.
• Statement of objectives: State your academic objectives in one to two pages and include the following information: (1) career and professional goals and aspirations and how being accepted to the program will specifically benefit your goals and aspirations; (2) description of relevant professional experience within education or a related field; and (3) future professional plans.
• Resume/curriculum vitae

Program Guidelines

• The BA/BS degree normally requires 120 undergraduate credit hours and the M.S. degree 33 graduate credit hours. However, the MS program requires 9 credit hours of elective courses at the 600 level or above that may count towards both the Chemistry BA/BS and the MS 
• Students may begin taking graduate courses during their 4th year of the program.
• Graduate courses must be completed with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• A grade of C or above must be achieved in all courses taken to fulfill Chemistry BA/BS requirements.
• The BA/BS degree may be awarded at any time following the completion of the undergraduate degree requirements.  Alternatively, the BA/BS and MS degrees may be awarded concurrently following completion of the full program.
• Students must choose one of two options in the BA/BS program – the Chemistry Program or the Chemical Science Program.
