This 12-credit hour online graduate certificate in Indigenous Education Leadership (IELC) will train leaders to work in American Indian educational contexts. This program is built around a new set of leadership standards produced by the Tribal Education Department’s National Assembly (TEDNA), which were approved January 13, 2021 by the TEDNA board.

Admission Requirements

Students enrolling in the K-State graduate certificate program in Indigenous Education Leadership must be admitted to K-State’s Graduate School. A student with a bachelor’s degree and a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 from a regionally accredited institution can expect to be fully admitted to the certificate program.

Students seeking this graduate certificate must fill out a Graduate School Application Form indicating that the field of study will be the Indigenous Education Leadership Certificate. In addition to the Graduate School Application Form, applicants must submit: (1) official copies of transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate work; and (2) a statement of goals and objectives for seeking this certificate which addresses the applicant’s current professional experience and how the Indigenous Education Leadership Certificate will assist in reaching personal or professional goals. This material must be uploaded in the CollegeNet admission system used by the Graduate School. For students already enrolled in a graduate level program: Given that the students will be filling out a Graduate School Application form for their own respective program, they will only need to send the statement of goals (item #2 listed above) to the program coordinator to be reviewed for admission into the certificate program.

Course Requirements

The courses are intended to be taken in the order listed. In accordance with the student’s needs and workplace requirements and with approval of the program coordinators, a student may substitute a graduate level equivalent course for EDLEA 730  or EDLEA 740  as long as they are relevant equivalents as it relates to educational leadership and experiences with Indigenous populations. EDLEA 740  - Applied Project in Educational Leadership for Indigenous Populations must be the last course in the sequence.
