Accelerated Fashion Studies (BS)/Fashion Studies (MS)



The accelerated B.S./M.S. program offered through the Department of Interior Design and Fashion Studies provides exceptional undergraduates an opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in 5 years. This is a shorter timeline for completing both degrees separately.

Undergraduate students interested in this program will apply for early admission to the graduate program and will be able to apply a maximum of nine graduate credit hours of from the M. S. Fashion Studies degree toward the B.S. degree program.

Admission Requirements


The application process is the same as for the traditional M.S. degree except a completed B.S. degree is not required. The following requirements must be met before an individual can be admitted into the program:

  • The student must be seeking a B.S. degree in Fashion Studies at Kansas State University and have completed a minimum of 75 credit hours toward the B.S. degree.
  • The student’s cumulative undergraduate GPA must be at least 3.0.
  • Students are responsible for researching financial aid implications of starting a accelerated degree program.
  • A student who has completed all coursework for the bachelor’s degree in Fashion Studies is not eligible for the accelerated program.

Application Process


Admission application is completed online and accessed via the following link found on the graduate school website: https://www.applyweb.com/kstateg/. Once an account is created, the degree program you seek is chosen, follow the instructions to manage the application process. Application for admission should include the following information:

  • A personal statement of objectives providing a summary of academic and/or professional experience, identification specific areas of interest, professional goals, and preferred primary faculty advisor.
  • Current resume
  • Three letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a current faculty member in Fashion Studies.
  • Official transcripts for all college coursework.

Program Formats and Guidelines


Since there is some overlap between undergraduate and graduate study, certain graduate courses (FASH 600 , IDFS 650  and IDFS 670 ) will also satisfy the degree requirements of the undergraduate degree. A maximum of nine graduate credit hours from the M.S. degree may be applied toward the B.S. degree as “shared”.

Additional Conditions


  • All B.S. undergraduate degree requirements must be completed before M.S. degree will be awarded.
  • The student must complete 30 hours of graduate coursework and maintain a graduate GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Students will complete either a research project or a work practicum as the required culminating experience.
  • At least 18 hours of the graduate program of study must be at the 700 level or above.
  • Once admitted to the accelerated degree program, the student is expected to refer to departmental and university graduate handbooks for policies and procedures for graduate degrees.
  • The B.S. degree will be awarded following the completion of the undergraduate degree requirements.
  • In the event that a student begins this program but does not wish to finish the M.S. in Fashion Studies degree requirements, the student must notify the Dean’s Office immediately.  A notation on the student’s transcript will indicate courses taken at the graduate level were applied to the bachelor’s degree.
