Accelerated Public Health (BS)/Master of Public Health (MPH)

The accelerated B.S. Public Health/M.P.H. program will provide exceptional undergraduates with the opportunity to obtain both a Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) and a Master of Public Health (MPH) in a shorter time than typically required to earn the bachelor’s degree plus MS if both degrees are pursued separately.
Students will apply to MPH degree program prior to completing all requirements for the BSPH degree. The following requirements must be met before an individual can be admitted into this program:
- The student must be seeking the bachelor’s degree in Public Health from the Department of Kinesiology.
- The student must have completed 75 credit hours toward the BS degree.
- The student’s cumulative undergraduate GPA must be at least 3.0.
Some graduate courses will satisfy the degree requirements of the undergraduate degree. A maximum of 9 graduate credit hours from the MPH degree may be counted toward or shared with the bachelor’s degree in Public Health. Some additional conditions are:
- The student must complete 42 graduate credit hours with a graduate GPA of at least 3.0.
- The student must complete all undergraduate requirements with the exception that up to 9 credit hours taken at the 600 or 700 level that satisfy the undergraduate and graduate degree requirements.
- The student must complete all requirements for the MPH degree, including the 15-hour core curriculum, required emphasis area courses, and an applied practice experience.
Upon admission to the accelerated BS Public Health/MPH degree program, the student should consult the graduate handbook for policies and procedures for graduate degrees, which include: supervisory committee, final defense, etc. The student’s supervisory committee must approve the program of study, which is a statement of the student’s graduation requirements.
