Accelerated Mechanical Engineering (BS)/Master of Business Administration (MBA)

The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering offers an accelerated Mechanical Engineering (BS) and Master’s of Business Administration degree program in Mechanical Engineering in which students can earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees with 9 hours of overlapping of coursework.

Admission Requirements
A student must meet the following requirements and petition Kansas State University’s Graduate School to be admitted into the accelerated program.
- The student must be seeking a Mechanical Engineering (BS) degree in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering.
- The student must have completed (or be currently enrolled in) at least 75 credit hours of their undergraduate degree.
- The student’s cumulative undergraduate GPA must be at least 3.00.
- The student must apply for this program before receiving their BSME degree.
Graduation Requirements
Because there is overlap between undergraduate and graduate study, up to 9 graduate credit hours will satisfy the degree requirements for the undergraduate degree. The 9 graduate credits must be composed of 600- or 700-level courses that can apply to the Master’s degree. Accelerated Master’s students will identify these courses by completing the Accelerated Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Form.

Choose 9 credits from the following list. Other courses may be substituted with approval from the supervisory committee.
Notes
- A student must meet with a graduate advisor in the College of Business before beginning the accelerated program.
- To meet prerequisites for MBA courses, the student’s Social and Behavioral Science Electives in the Mechanical Engineering (BS) curriculum must be: ECON 110 Principles of Macroeconomics and ECON 120 Principles of Microeconomics .
- The MBA course ECON 815 Economic Analysis for Business will replace IMSE 530 Engineering Economic Analysis in the Mechanical Engineering (BS) curriculum.
- The graded MBA coursework must include: MANGT 810 , MANGT 820 , MANGT 830 , MANGT 860 , MANGT 880 , ACCTG 810 , MKTG 810 , FINAN 815 , 6 credit hours from within the students chosen MBA Concentration Area, and GENBA 890 Business Capstone .
