Logistics and supply chain management are among the fastest-growing business sectors in the Heartland region, a focal point for the movement and distribution of goods throughout the country. The Supply Chain Management (SCM) Certificate is to provide Kansas State University students with an opportunity to explore and pursue career choices in logistics and supply chain management. Considering the growing attention that supply chain management has received in recent times, students in other business disciplines as well as non-business majors (e.g., agriculture, engineering, etc.) would benefit from developing a solid background on processes related to the flow of material and information from supplier to customer and vice versa.
The SCM Certificate curriculum is designed based on the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model, one of the most frequently used references to support the description of supply chains, developed and endorsed by the APICS Supply Chain Council as the gold standard for managing supply chains. The model is organized around the six key supply chain processes: Plan, Source, Make, Deliver, Return, and Enable. The core curriculum of the certificate – MANGT 421, MANGT 561, MANGT 660, and MANGT 662 – provide comprehensive coverage of the key SCOR model processes. After completing the certificate, students should be able to understand the different sourcing and procurement strategies, develop logistics networks that minimize cost and deliver superior customer service, understand how to plan and schedule production activities, know the various modes of transportation, and understand how to design and set up a warehouse facility and learn how to deliver products and services to the ultimate customers.
