General Requirements:
The minor will require 20 credit hours from the designated courses including the language credits. It is required that students maintain a good academic standing with a grade of C or above in these courses.
Introductory Course Requirement:
Students must take an introductory course (3 Credits) related to the minor.
Language Requirement:
Students are required to take at least 8 credit hours of language listed below.
- ARAB 101 - Arabic I Credits: 4
- ARAB 102 - Arabic II Credits: 4
Note 1: Arab 101 and Arab 102 are 4 credit hour courses. It is strongly recommended that students also take additional courses in language (e.g. ARAB 300 and ARAB 301) for a complete cultural immersion in the Middle Eastern culture.
Note 2: A student may substitute previous college level course work in Turkish, Persian, or Hebrew upon approval. A native speaker of these languages may be exempt from the language requirements and can fulfill the remaining requirements for total credits by taking approved electives or independent studies. In addition, a student may fulfill language requirements in a study abroad program if credit hours are offered at college level and if these courses are approved by Kansas State University.
Students must select one course from each section and complete a minimum of 9 credits of core courses from the following three categories. To fulfill the minor requirements, each student has to choose one course from each section below:
Political Science Courses
Communication Studies, Philosophy, Modern Languages
Optional Elective:
Note: Students can replace one course (3 credit) from the “core course requirements” section conditional on the approval of the director of the Middle East Studies Minor:
