Master of Arts in Teaching (elementary track)

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed for second-career adults who have previously attained a Bachelor’s degree and would like to become elementary or secondary teacher. Program completers would earn a Master of Arts in Teaching degree and a recommendation for initial teacher licensure. The MAT has the choice of an elementary track or a secondary track. Candidates for secondary education must have a bachelor’s degree in the subject field where licensure is sought.

The program is designed as a cohort model and is delivered exclusively online in 12 months. Each cohort begins with the May intersession. The program provides an alternative pathway to teaching that is not currently available to Kansans or others who live outside a reasonable radius of a university or other teacher education unit.

As part of the program, candidates complete a 2-credit hour practicum (EDCI 800) and a 4-credit hour teaching internship (EDCI 801). These field experiences are arranged in accredited schools convenient to students in the program.

Application requirements and information about the program can be found in the MAT Handbook at the Master of Arts in Teaching website (http://coe.ksu.edu/academics/mateaching/index.html)
