Food Animal Veterinary DVM Certificate


The goal of the Food Animal Veterinary Certificate (FAVC) program is to prepare graduates for long-term success in food animal veterinary practice by incorporating skills in varied areas including animal health, production medicine, practice management, and client communications.  Achieving this goal will result in a veterinary workforce capable of meeting the needs of livestock producers in a sustainable practice environment.

Note: Must take at least 4 pre-clinical and 4 clinical electives.

Required Core Experiences


  • Member of at least one national veterinary professional association (e.g. AABP, AVC, AASRP, AASV)
  • Complete required procedure log (Appendix 1)
  • Complete required number of procedures from elective procedure log (Appendix 2)
  • Demonstrated proficiency at core clinical skills (fourth year)
  • Externship with food animal emphasis (fourth year)
  • College-wide case and experience portfolio presentation seminar (fourth year)
