Kansas State University’s personal financial planning certificate program is a CFP Board-Registered Program, offered through the School of Family Studies and Human Services  . Accurate and timely information in the key area of financial planning will be provided, in addition to meeting the educational requirements of CFP Board, qualifying students to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination.

K-State’s certificate in personal financial planning is unlike any other program in the country. The majority of programs registered with Certified Financial Planner Board of  standards Inc. either require in-class attendance or they rely on self-study materials. The K-State program offers students an opportunity to combine self-study with a mentoring classroom-type experience. The program is offered totally online.

The certificate in personal financial planning is available for 18 hours of graduate credit. The program consists of six courses: Fundamentals of Financial Planning, Insurance Planning for Families, Investing for the Family´s Future, Personal Income Taxation, Retirement Planning Employee Benefits and the Family, and Estate Planning for Families. Students have the option of taking these six courses as a stand-alone graduate certificate, or they may transfer all 18 credit hours into the Master of Science degree in Family Studies and Human Services: Emphasis in Personal Financial Planning.
