Requirements

Students may obtain either a bachelor of arts or a bachelor of science degree with a major in mathematics. For either degree, in addition to the general requirements  of the university and college, mathematics majors must complete the following core courses:

• CIS 111 - Introduction to Computer Programming Credits: (3)

• or

• CIS 200 - Programming Fundamentals Credits: (4)

• or

• CIS 209 - C Programming for Engineers Credits: (3)

• or

• CIS 570 - Introduction to Formal Language Theory Credits: (3)
• MATH 220 - Analytic Geometry and Calculus I Credits: (4)
• MATH 221 - Analytic Geometry and Calculus II Credits: (4)
• MATH 222 - Analytic Geometry and Calculus III Credits: (4)
• MATH 240 - Elementary Differential Equations Credits: (4)
• MATH 511 - Introduction to Algebraic Systems Credits: (3)

• or

• MATH 512 - Introduction to Modern Algebra Credits: (3)
• MATH 520 - Foundations of Analysis Credits: (3)

• or

• MATH 633 - Advanced Calculus I Credits: (3)
• STAT 510 - Introductory Probability and Statistics I Credits: (3)

Notes

• For the BA degree, students must take 15 additional credit hours in mathematics numbered 400 or above; PHILO 510  may be substituted for 3 of these credit hours.
• For the BS degree, students must take 15 additional credit hours in mathematics numbered 400 or above.
• Students majoring in mathematics must earn a grade of C or better in each math and statistics course used to satisfy requirements for the major.
• All students should enroll in MATH 199  in their first fall on campus.
• Students may choose one of four concentrations, depending on their career interests.
