Overview

The School of Human Sciences is a multidisciplinary unit that provides graduate training for M.S. and Ph.D. students. The professional specializations are addressed to broad issues concerning individuals and families, and the courses are taught by a faculty of educators, prevention scientists, health specialists, gerontologists, and couple and family therapists.

Extensive research and professional practice opportunities are provided through The Family Center and Center for Child Development. Opportunities are also available through the university-wide Center on Aging and various community programs.

The school offers graduate work toward M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in a broad range of the human sciences and human services. The M.S. degree in human development and family science includes specializations in couple and family therapy, early childhood education, family and community services, and prevention science. The school also offers an M.S. in gerontology. The school offers the following specializations leading to the Ph.D. degree in health and human sciences: couple and family therapy and prevention science in HDFS. Also available in the department are certificates in conflict resolution, gerontology, and human services administration.

Online programs

The school collaborates with the Innovative Digital Education Alliance (IDEA)Innovative Digital Education Alliance (IDEA) to offer the M.S. degree in human development and family science with a specialization in family and community services. The inter-institutional M.S. programs draw upon the expertise of graduate faculty from six universities. The program is taught fully online. Students enrolled in the program through Kansas State University will receive their degrees from Kansas State University.

Additionally, the M.S. degree in human development and family science with a specialization in early childhood education, the M.S. in gerontology, and the graduate certificates in conflict resolution, gerontology, and human services administration are all offered as online only programs.
