HORT 542 - Hydroponic Food Production Lab Credits 1
This laboratory course consists of hands-on hydroponic crop production of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, leafy greens, strawberries, herbs, cut flowers, and microgreens in a variety of production systems, including aquaponics, used in controlled environment agriculture. Topics include system design and construction considerations, nutrient management, pollination and pest management in hydroponics, sustainability of the systems and safe food handling practices.
Note Lab materials and instruction for this course will be provided on site at or near the Manhattan and Olathe campuses. One 110-minute lab will be taught weekly, and student teams will manage crop production during weekdays.
