HORT 425 - Introduction to Controlled Environment Agriculture Credits 3
Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA), including greenhouses, vertical farms, hydroponic and other systems, offers benefits such as year-round production, reduced water and pesticide use, and the ability to grow crops in urban areas. This course introduces and examines current commercial methods of controlled environmental agricultural production. Basic plant physiology, nutrient management, and pest identification and control methods will be investigated. Weekly laboratory sessions provide students valuable hands-on learning opportunities, supporting and enhancing the scientific concepts presented during lectures.
Note Course is taught by University of Missouri - Columbia and offered to K-State students through IDEA. Course modality is hybrid for 15 weeks with two 50-min lectures and one 2-hour in person lab in Manhattan or Olathe per week. For tuition information, see https://www.idea.edu/students/cost
