GEOL 630 - Sedimentology and Stratigraphy Credits 3
This course introduces the basic principles used in the study of Sedimentology and Stratigraphy. Sedimentology is the study of sediment, particularly focusing on how it is transported, and deposited. Stratigraphy emphasizes the analysis of sedimentary strata that provide many of the details of the Earth’s history: effects of sea level change, global climate, tectonic processes, and geochemical cycles. This course covers basics of fluid flow and sediment transport, sedimentary structures and textures, and interpretation of ancient depositional environments, as well as the techniques used to put strata in context of time and space.
Note Two hours lecture and three hours lab a week.
