CE 827 - Computational Applications in Geo-Systems

Credits: 3

The application of finite element method to multi-physics and pressure dependent materials such as soils, rock, concrete and asphalt. Course covers the formulation of 1D element, overview of elasticity (isotropic and anisotropic), theory of plasticity (modified Cam Clay and Drucker-Prager models), which is followed by applications such as stresses in the soil, shear strength, consolidation, shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls,  mechanically stabilized earth and groundwater seepage.
