MLANG 120 - Multilingualism in the U.S.

Credits: 3

Examines the sociolinguistic and sociocultural coexistence among English and varied minority languages (e.g., French, Chinese, Spanish, and German) through different blocks or content units. Students will gain an appreciation for multiculturalism and multilingualism in the U.S. while expanding their awareness concerning global issues. To this end, the students will learn and engage in discussions about race, identity, migration, acculturation, syncretical views and practices, language variation, and linguistic adaptability as experienced by multilingual communities with diverse ethnic backgrounds.
