ECE 872 - Therapeutic Medical Devices and Systems Credits: 3
This course will cover: (1) the fundamental principles of electromagnetic energy interactions with biological tissue, and (2) the design and analysis of electromagnetic energy-based therapeutic medical devices and systems. Topics covered include: tissue-energy interactions; neuromuscular electrical stimulation; rationale and applications of thermal therapy; devices for radiofrequency and microwave hyperthermia; thermal ablation; integration with medical imaging systems.

Requisites: Prerequisite: an undergraduate course in electromagnetics (e.g. ECE 557); an undergraduate course in numerical methods/scientific computing (e.g. ECE 540)
