GWSS 570 - Gender and Food JusticeCredits: 3
Uses the feminist concept of intersectionality to explore the ways that gender intersects with race, class, and global location in food justice and food sovereignty movements. Focusing on works by and about U.S. people of color, students will explore a variety of topics and concepts including systemic bias in food deserts and local food, decolonizing food, hunger and malnutrition, and human rights. Examination of these narratives enables students to understand how food and food systems are both a means of dominant control and powerful sites of gender resistance.
