The study of insects, and other arthropods, their physiology and life cycle in association with criminal events is the realm of Forensic entomology. The purpose is uncovering and revealing information useful to an investigation. This is an introductory course designed to provide a basic understanding of the interaction between the discipline of entomology and the legal system. We will discuss the importance of insects in forensics related to aspects in criminal investigations (case studies). An emphasis will be placed on collection, preservation, identification, analysis, and presentation of information derived from arthropod samples collected as evidence.
Requisites: Recommended Prerequisite: ENTOM 301, ENTOM 305, OR ENTOM 312
