Overview of theory and research in the field of political communication. Introduces students to key concepts, research questions, and approaches in the field. Explores how political elites construct their messages and how citizens come to understand their roles in discourse. Topics covered: presidential communication, election campaign discourse, civic discourse and deliberation, and new media and civic/political engagement.
