CNRES 538 - Advanced Trauma and Traumatic Stress

Credits: 3

This course will examine a broad range of traumatic experiences and their associated biopsychosocial outcomes. A variety of topics including military trauma, childhood abuse, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, human trafficking, natural disasters, and terrorism, among others, will be addressed. We will also discuss various mental, emotional, and interpersonal reactions to traumatic life events, as well as traditional and alternative treatment approaches for trauma-related diagnoses. Factors that contribute to posttraumatic growth will be highlighted, with an emphasis on examining effective community-based resources for the successful treatment of traumatic stress.

Recommended prerequisite: CNRES 529.
