AVT 317 - Composites ICredits: 3
Introduction to composite materials used in a broad range of industries with an emphasis on aero structure. Topics include defining a composite, understanding the materials, safety aspects, and shop layouts that are used to produce composite parts. An overview of the construction methods, understanding how to inspect components for damage, and procedures to perform the actual repair used in industry today. Students develop an understanding of how to design/source industrial composite fasteners and install into the composite structure and the science of coatings for the protection of both the composite materials as well as metallic components adjacent to composites. The labs support the lectures with projects designed to give the student hands on application.
Note One hour lecture and four hours lab a week.
