HIST 570 - Europe in the Seventeenth CenturyCredits: (3) Surveys the economic, social, political and intellectual history of western Europe in the seventeenth century, a period marked by economic depression, international conflict, and domestic revolutions as well as by cultural achievement. Emphasizes the complex interaction among social groups; the rise of a European state system; the development of constitutional monarchy in England and absolute monarchy in France; and the change in values generated by the scientific revolution.
